Operating the Sea Pro Magnetic Locator is as easy as rotating its three-position ON-OFF-ON power switch. Simply rotate the Power switch to activate the instrument and the automatic gain control system will take care of everything else. Automatically switching to the maximum gain setting when activated, Sea Pro continually evaluates conditions, readjusting the instrument's gain as required. There is no need to worry about the instrument battery level since a built-in Low Battery indicator begins flashing whenever the operator has only 1 to 2 hours of normal operation remaining.

Typically, the Sea Pro will provide up to 33 hours of normal operation from one 9-volt Lithium battery. Sea Pro uses four fluxgate magnetometers to detect the magnetic field of a target and then produces both an audio and a visual output signal proportional to the magnetic field intensity. The peaking of the Sea Pro output frequency normally indicates that you are over the top of a vertical dipole. Buried pipe appears like a string of horizontal dipoles.

For buried pipe, the peaking of the Sea Pro output frequency normally indicates that you are over the end of that pipe section, i.e. the weld. When searching for horizontal pipelines, look for a polarity change on the digital panel meter. A polarity change that occurs when the output frequency is low means you are nominally over the midpoint of the pipe section. A polarity change when the output frequency is high typically indicates a pipe joint or weld.

The importance of the operator’s magnetic cleanliness prior to beginning a search cannot be over-emphasized. Some of the more common sources of local magnetic interference are watches, Oxygen tanks, knives, flashlights, and battery operated devices.

The Sea Pro magnetic locator also features a high visibility, backlit, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel meter. The 3½ digit, (0 to ± 1999) meter provides an exact numeric readout with a separate polarity indicator that can be even more useful to the experienced professional.

Battery replacement is a simple matter. Rotate the battery lens housing counterclockwise and remove. Now, plug in a new 9V lithium battery (to maximize your operating time), clean the lens and threads, and reassemble.

The instrument handle can be attached in multiple configurations, just retract the appropriate locking slides and then slide the handle along the grooved track to the desired position.

A convenient power switch safety lock prevents accidental instrument operation during storage.
